Description:
You'd think that having a body like Ashley Allen's would go to her pretty head, but it hasn't fazed this willowy Dallas-based model in the least. "I honestly don't think I'm all that pretty," she confides, "but I have to admit I'm real happy that Playboy does!" All in all, 1992 seems to be her banner year. Since learning of her impending centerfold status last October, Ashley has been fielding more offers than her answering machine can accommodate. And while she's happy to find herself so sought after, the demand is beginning to exceed her supply of energy. The long work days and the constant air travel required for on-location modeling shoots in Hawaii and Paris, various promotional gigs and the like have left this fetching 24-year-old feeling frazzled. If jet lag could kill, she agrees, she'd be listed in serious condition. Still, she perseveres with a smile, since most of the offers - including a film audition ("Bachelor Party II"), her ads for Hawaiian Tropic tanning lotion and her poster-girl work for Miller - are simply too good to refuse. Even wedlock has to take a backseat to Ashley's ambitions. "I got married young - when I was eighteen - but the marriage lasted only one year. My ex was a nice guy, but he tried to keep too tight a rein on me. He wanted me to give up modeling, insisting I have a baby instead. It was like the old cliche - he wanted to keep me barefoot and pregnant. No way. I never intend to get so dependent on a man that I don't have a career to fall back on." Her show-business career started at an early age. Ashley was a Miss Heart of the Border finalist when she was just 14. Later, she won several modeling contests, including, when she was 19, the local title in the Ford Agency's Supermodel competition, the breakthrough that launched her career. She's talented, too. "I was so shy as a girl that my mom made me take dance lessons - ballet, tap and jazz - and it really helped to make me more outgoing." Ashley went on to play flute - first chair - in her high school band and became such an accomplished roller skater that she won the regional finals when she was 15. But despite a host of extracurricular activities in high school, including a two-year stint as a cheerleader and being named homecoming queen, she worked hard to be "an A and B student, if you don't count a C in geometry - I never could get the hang of angles." Fast forward to 1992. Romance? "Right now I just want a man who can make me laugh and who likes to go out dancing. I'm not into making any serious commitments." Eventually, though, she'd like to marry an amusing, self-made man who's as loving as her father was and have one boy - to spoil rotten. "I do like men a lot," she admits, "but they can be awfully distracting when you're trying to concentrate on a career."

Jeana Tomasino is ready. Just name the occasion; she'll be there. On time, fully prepared and looking good. In spaced-out Los Angeles, where she lives now, that's a standout characteristic. So standout, in fact, that she doesn't fit Hollywood's institutionalized numerical rating system. Jeana is quite simply an A.

You don't get to be an A by just being pretty, though Jeana could give lessons in blinding flash. For the A, you've got to do your homework. And that's what Jeana's been doing since she left her Milwaukee homestead several years ago to seek fame and fortune (her fame, anybody's fortune). Her first stop was Chicago, where, in only a more time than it took the Great Chicago Fire, she had consumed the city. In a first-class whirlwind tour, she established her credentials as a model, sometime actress and full-time bon vivant. "I loved the mix of people in Chicago," she says, "the doctors, the lawyers; at a party, you could learn something. Here in L.A., it's movies, movies, movies." Jeana is nothing if not social. An irrepressible people lover, she draws out the shy with queries and muzzles the arrogant with her sincerity. Most of the time, the party doesn't begin until Jeana gets there.

With the ashes of Chicago - and a few of the hearts - still smoldering, Jeana attacked L.A. It was no contest. She parlayed her modeling experience into several national TV commercials. You've seen her tout Dittos, Lincoln-Mercury, The Gap and Coppertone, to name a few. As an actress, she has collected a raft of small parts, notably one in Mel Brooks's upcoming flick <i>The History of the World - Part I</i>. As a <i>bon vivant</i>, she hits the best parties, including those celebrated galas at a certain Holmby Hills mansion.

All the while, Jeana was doing her homework: making contacts, taking singing and dancing lessons, reading voraciously. Getting ready. The money she was making went partly into the stock market, partly into shoes. "I snort Charles Jourdan shoes," she says. "My stockbroker gets angry when he sees them all, telling me how much I could have invested in stocks instead. I give the extras to my mother or my sister, though I don't know what they do with rhinestoned high heels in Milwaukee." After all the work she'd done, it was no wonder that when Playboy went looking for a few talented Playmates to form a singing group, Jeana was one of the chosen few. The same sparkle that put her on Playboy's centerfold will soon put smiles on faces of stage audiences. Such a rapid rise would fog the brains of lesser mortals, but not Jeana's. Everything is falling into place and success is somehow inevitable. While some would say she's leading a dream life now, Jeana assures us, "I have lots of dreams left; I'm just starting." One hell of a good start, we'd say.

Cyber Girl of the Week - July 2001 - Jeanette Rundgren

Last month, we were loaded with French Canadian Cyber Girls. This month starts with a more European feel as we welcome our first Swedish Cyber Girl of the Week, Jeanette Rundgren. This spectacular Swede may not be as blonde as our most famous Swedish Playmate, 1997 PMOY Victoria Silvstedt, but she is every bit as beautiful and fun. Jeanette sent us this note to pass along to all the Cyber Club members after we told her she was becoming a part of the Playboy family. "Hi, my name is Jeanette and I come from this country in northern Europe called Swedenyeah, that's where all us pretty girls are. [I was] born and raised in a small town [and] at the age of 18 I headed south to Milano to pursue a modeling career. I got signed by Elite but now I have realized that it [is] much more fun to pose for publications like Playboy." Her modeling career has taken her all over Europe, the United States and more exotic locations such as Thailand, where she rode an elephant for the first time. She enjoys the United States when she's here to modelespecially California. "The beaches (there) are great. I enjoy walking on your sandy beaches," Jeanette said. We're sure the guys on the beaches Jeanette visits feel the same way.

Playmate of the Month September 1976 - Whitney Kaine




Description:
"Quite frankly, I don't really feel like a Playmate at all," says Whitney Kaine. "I mean, I'm not especially concerned with the glamor aspect of it, nor do I think of it as the high point of my career - but it is an interesting detour for me." Whitney's major interest these days is - believe it or not - her schoolwork. She's currently a sophomore at UCLA, majoring in art (with a anthropology, French, dance and psychology thrown in for good measure), and she takes her education seriously. "If I could, I'd continue going to school for the rest of my life," she says. Nonetheless, her tentative goal is to get a master-of-fine-arts degree at UCLA and then, perhaps, either teach art in an experimental school or free-lance, although the idea of working as an art therapist intrigues her. In the meantime, when she's not playing tennis (years ago, she was on a tournament circuit) or practicing the piano (mostly Bach and Mozart), she sketches tirelessly, attempting to create her own style. Her only definite plan for the future is to take a senior year of study in Paris, to be largely funded by her modeling money. Aside from its financial advantages, her Playmate modeling experience has been "refreshing," Whitney says. "Working with the photographers was fascinating to me, because, as an artist, I was really able to appreciate the creative elements of their craft," she says. "In a way, posing for Playboy has given me the chance to express myself in a new medium." And if the medium is, indeed, the message, then we're reading Miss September loud and clear.
